General Ajongo was “invaluable to the peace process” says JMEC Deputy Chair
The late South Sudan Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General James Ajongo Mawut was “invaluable” to the peace process in the country and a supporter of key institutions under the 2015 Peace Agreement, the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC), has said.
Speaking when he delivered a condolence message to the Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. General Kuol Manyang Juukin his office on Wednesday, JMEC Deputy Chairperson Amb. Lt. Gen. Augostino Njoroge, said General Ajongo was a “a great soldier, leader and friend”.
“As CDF, his strong, personal support and stewardship of the Joint Military Ceasefire Commission (JMCC) and the Strategic Defence and Security Review Board (SDSRB) vital institutions under Chapter II of the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (ARCSS), was invaluable to the on-going peace process,” Ambassador Njoroge said.
“JMEC fraternity and myself personally knew him as a great soldier, leader and friend. We join you in mourning his passing and know he will be sorely missed by the Nation and the International Community,”
JMEC Chief of Staff, Ambassador Berhanu Kebede and Senior Security Advisor, Jeff Mapendere accompanied Ambassador Njoroge.
General Ajongo passed on last month in Cairo, Egypt.
